About Catena

Catena is a youth-led, multidisciplinary literary magazine that publishes poetry, prose, film, photography, and visual art. Rooted in literature, we explore language, image, and conception as interconnected practices, with a focus on work that is emotionally rigorous, curious, and attentive to form.

Built on the understanding that no form of art exists in isolation, Catena creates space for cross-art connections, experimentation, and hybrid forms, bringing together emerging voices and works that resist fixed categories while still seeking connection.

We believe creativity is inherently interconnected; Catena is our way of bringing those intersections together - letting different voices, mediums, and expressions speak to one another.

Join us as we explore the threads that bind art, literature, and individuals into one continuous chain.

Editor's Note

As both a writer and an editor, I’ve had the chance to work across different magazines and creative spaces. Over time, what stayed with me wasn’t just the work itself, but the interplay between forms and the way distinct artistic expressions could intersect, contrast, and inform one another. A poem might feel cinematic. A photograph might carry a narrative. An essay might read like a piece of visual thinking. Catena emerged from that intersection. It began as an idea shaped by an overlap of perspectives, and voices and evolved into a platform that values creative diversity at its core. The intention has always been to create a space where no single form dominates, and where a wide range of artistic expression can coexist meaningfully. Catena is, at its heart, an attempt to bring those connections to life.
